Scented session

A few drops of scent, or none

Swedish massage with a little essential oil in the massage oil. You smell the choices first, and you can say no to all of them. The scent is there for the smell and nothing more.

We keep three or four scents on the shelf, such as lavender, cedar and bergamot. We can tell you every ingredient in the oil.

  • 60 minutes

  • Unscented unless you choose a scent

  • Tell us about a fragrance allergy when you book

How the session goes

  1. 01

    Step 1: Smell and choose

Your therapist opens each bottle for you to smell, or you skip them all.

  2. 02

Step 2: A few drops in the oil

Your therapist mixes the oil while you get under the sheet.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Swedish massage

The same long, slow strokes as any Swedish session, with pressure you set.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Time to rise

A minute to lie still, then water and a chair if you like.

What to know before you come

  • Pressure

We ask before we start and check again partway through. Lighter or firmer is always your call.

  • Covered the whole time

A sheet covers you throughout. Only the part being worked on is uncovered, and it is covered again when we move on.

  • Ask first

If you are pregnant, or have had recent surgery or an injury, ask your doctor or midwife before you book.

  • What to wear

Come in what is easy to take off. Undress to your comfort; there is a hook by the door and a place for boots.

Who does it

Leanne does the scented sessions

She trained in aromatherapy and mixes the oil herself.

  • Leanne Johansson, with short gray hair and glasses, in a white top and navy trousers, leaning on a wall in the studio hallway

    Leanne Johansson

    Owner and massage therapist

Leanne opened Stillwater to make the room she wanted to lie down in: warm, quiet and unhurried. She trained in Swedish massage and in aromatherapy, and she has practiced for most of her working life. She works Tuesday to Saturday.

Questions about this session

Can I have no scent at all?

Yes. Every Swedish session uses unscented oil unless you ask for a scent.

What if I react to a scent?

Tell your therapist right away and we change the oil. If you have a known fragrance allergy, tell us when you book.

Does the scent do anything?

It is there for the smell. We make no claim for what essential oils do for your body.
